TELUS International Europe repaired the school for children with hearing disabilities in Sofia


The sixth edition of the initiative “Days of Giving” took place in the School for children with hearing disabilities “Professor Decho Denev” in Sofia. More than 650 TELUS employees from Sofia and Plovdiv, employees of “Listen up” and dozens of Deaf volunteers repaired the board, the playground  and the school yard.

The investment of 53 000 euro, made by the project “TELUS Day of support is part of the annual global volunteering campaign of TELUS. Thousands of employees from the offices of the company around the world express their commitment to “give there where they live” via voluntary work. This initiative has been held since 2013. Over the years the company’s efforts have been mainly directed towards the overall renovation of the School for blind children “Louis Braille” in Sofia and the renovation of the complex for social services for children and families in Plovdiv.


This year the cause that is supported by TELUS Days of Giving is dedicated to people with hearing disabilities. During the month of May the charitable event took place in Plovdiv. More than 250 volunteers invested their efforts in renovating the specialized school for children with hearing problems “Professor Stoyan Belinov”. Today the initiative was extended in Sofia in the school “Professor Decho Denev”. Thanks to this Green areas surrounding the school were cleaned as well as new light systems were installed.

“The magic of this event is happening thank to the employees of TELUS International Europe. Thanks to their voluntary work we are capable of changing the environment in which we live. As a company we will stand behind socially important causes which benefit society” said Xavier Marsenak, president of TELUS International Europe.

This year the initiative is carried out with  “Listen up” which is working hard to ensure equal access for people with hearing problems to school personnel and parents. The foundation recently won funding from the Public Board of TELUS International Europe, through which it developed a platform for video sign language translation, which aims to help these people to be active in society and lead a full life.

Both in Plovdiv in May and now volunteers from the Deaf community in Bulgaria also took part in TELUS Day of Support. They all gave away their labor and in addition were introduced to  the basics of sign language.

“Listen up” Foundation  with a song that changes the attitude towards deaf people.

With the support of Sofia Municipality, business partners, “Listen up” Foundation and the musician Radoslav Gergov, we will turn a dream into reality! Pretty soon light will see the video for the song “Listen to”. The piece has a modern hip-hop and pop sound that can be felt by deaf people.

The main objective of the project is to launch a major campaign that change attitudes in society towards people with hearing impairments.
